Picture Comparisons

Although I'm not the creative artist Michele is, I have my own style of expression. Mostly my creations are my afghans. I decided to put up memory boards in my office and I've been putting pictures of family, vacations and other events happening in my life.

Along with my current pictures, I've added pictures of Michael and Melissa when they were babies. I'm going to add pictures of baby Violet as she gets older to see how much she resembles Michael and Melissa. I wish I had pictures of Jamie as a baby. His mom promises to get them to me when she finds them.

Winter Storm

No Thursday dinner with Dad today. All of Kansas City is just about shut down due to a winter storm. Most highways are closed and those that work are enjoying a day off including Melissa and Karen. Michael was lucky that today was his day off.

This is a picture I took at 9:00 this morning. It had been snowing for approximately 2 hours. The picture is so fuzzy because of the amount of snow falling.

This is a picture I took at 12:30 p.m. Look at the snow piled up around my garden bench (by the tree) and outdoor lights. The snow has stopped for now but is supposed to resume around 5:00 this evening.

Creative Baby Afghan

A friend of Melissa's, Angela, saw the afghan I made for Baby Violet and asked me to make her an afghan for her new baby boy. This presented quite a problem for me because her colors are teal, chartreuse, orange and grey. These are not colors for baby yarn. I was excited when I found a style of yarn in these colors.

I created the baby afghan using a chevron pattern. Although I would have preferred white instead of the off white color, Angela was extremely pleased with the result.

Valentine's Day

We usually go out to dinner on Thursdays, but because today was Valentine's Day and we didn't want to fight the crowds, I picked up pizza from Papa Murphy's and heart shaped donuts from Dunkin' Donuts.

Karen, Teresa and Brad joined us and Melissa even brought the puppies.

Lunch with the Girls

Once a month I get together with 4 ladies I used to work with at KCP&L. Although I forget to take pictures for my blog, I didn't want to skip this month to celebrate Krista's birthday.

Happy Birthday Krista!

Book Club

Several months ago, my friend, Jamie, invited me to join her book club. This month we read "Cold Sassy Tree" by Olive Ann Burns. This is a story about love and acceptance of growing up in the early 1900's. It's about a man whose wife has passed away and he marries a much younger woman sooner than the acceptable mourning period. The book is narrated by his grandson. I highly recommend this book.

Neighborhood Baby Shower

Melissa lives in a neighborhood where they all get together for block parties on holidays. The ladies of the neighborhood gave her a baby shower. We were asked to bring pictures of ourselves as babies and then guess who belonged to which picture. Since I didn't know everyone, I kept asking Melissa people's names to try and match pictures to people. I didn't win the game but only got three people wrong.

Leaetta hosted the shower. This picture shows Melissa has only 4 weeks until Baby Violet is due.

Dinner with Jamie and John

My best friend from high school is still one of my best friends today. Jamie's husband, John, is another old classmate of mine.

Occasionally we get together for dinner. It's so fun sitting around and reminiscing about our childhood and high school days.

Thursday Dinner Master Wok

Every Thursday, Dad and I go to dinner. Michael usually joins us and if Melissa and Jamie are free, they come too. Master Wok was our choice.

Pregnancy Pictures

When I was pregnant with Michael and Melissa, I would hide behind things whenever anyone produced a camera. But today, pregnancy pictures are much the rage.

Although if I were as small as Melissa, I probably wouldn't have minded having my picture taken.

These pictures were taken when Melissa was 35 weeks pregnant.

Since Jamie is a paramedic for Lee's Summit Fire Department, Melissa and Jamie wanted to get a picture on the firetruck.

Afghans - Baby Violet

I taught myself to crochet about 25 years ago while recuperating from surgery. Since then I've made an abundance of afghans for weddings, graduations and baby showers. Each one is unique to the person and the occasion. As soon as I knew Melissa was having a girl, I started working on a series of afghans for our Baby Violet.

The first was a baby afghan using a Mile A Minute design. My intention was to match the grey circles of the crib sheet pattern.

I wanted Melissa to have an afghan to cover up with while she rocked her new baby. I stayed with the color scheme of pink, white and grey but went with a popular chevron (or ripple) pattern.

I then decided that I needed a baby afghan for the times Baby Violet came to spend time with her Grandmother. Again, staying with the color scheme, I created a diagonal pattern.

All the pictures are taken in the baby's room. Each day there are more things added to the room that I sometimes wonder if there will be room when Baby Violet arrives.
