Birthday Milestone

Days before my eye surgery, Michele came to Kansas City to celebrate her 70th birthday.

I remember the days when we thought 70 was old and decrepit but both out minds, at least mine, think we're still in our 40's. Our minds may think that but our bodies beg to differ. Happy Birthday Michele. May I be as active as you are when I reach that age!

Teresa Retires from the City of Independence

Teresa has worked for the City of Independence for 21 years and today was her retirement party.

Although she still has one more day to work we all gathered at City Hall to wish her the best.

She's happy to be retired but I don't think the sitting home all day is going to work for her. I give it 6 months before she's out pounding the pavement looking for another job!

Easter Day Fun

As with any holiday with 4 kids, things can get a little hectic.

After a great Easter barbecue dinner, we went outside for an Easter egg hunt. It's a good thing Melissa got an earlier Easter pic of the kids...

because they weren't quite in the mood for a group picture after dinner.

Then the excitement of the Easter egg hunt. I put names on the eggs so everyone gets the same amount. It's funny to watch Violet and Lincoln pick up an egg labeled with someone else's name and throw it back to the ground.

Goldie not only opened all the candy from her basket but for her, any unattended egg was free game. She'd open the candy, lick the candy, throw the candy down, then on to the next. It was an exhausting day but a great Easter!

Happy Birthday Teresa

Having a birthday in the Springs means sometimes it may fall on Easter. Teresa's birthday was the Saturday before Easter.

I did see Teresa on her birthday since she came to the kids' sports games but we didn't get to do anything because she was home babysitting the brisket for our Easter dinner. I had to wait until Sunday but I got my birthday shirt picture.

Sports Day

Saturdays are going to become very active since Violet and Lincoln have both decided to take up sports.

The first stop was Violet's first volleyball game. She did great actually taking after her Mom. It was funny to watch Melissa sitting in the stands in a crouched position ready to analyze the game. If it wasn't for her responsibility to 3 other children, I do believe she'd make a great coach....at least better than the one Violet has now.

Then it was off to the football fields where Lincoln is playing flag football. While Violet's volleyball is indoors, Lincoln plays outside - rain or shine. At least for his first game the weather was perfect. The boys tied their first game playing two 20 minute halves with a 5 minute break in between.

Goldie's First Stitches

It never fails but sometime in a kid's life, they will get stitches. Goldie is no exception.
But instead of the usual split chin as what usually happens in our family, Goldie grabbed for the lid from an open can and cut her finger. Three stitches later, she was back in business!
