Bomb Pops and School Supplies

It's been a busy week for me spending 2 days with Violet, Lincoln and Hazel.
Games, bomb pops and outdoor activities were on the agenda for Monday.
Tuesday, while escaping my housekeeper, we went shopping for school supplies. And what's a trip to Target without each kid picking out a new toy. That's a Ma's right, correct?

Road Trip to Colorado

Michele has moved into her new house in Aurora, CO, so I decided to take a road trip and visit her.

It's approximately 350 miles across Kansas and do you know what the most exciting thing to see while driving across the highway in Kansas? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I was so bored driving I tried to capture a picture of the electric wind turbines. The only other excitement for me was dodging the millions of bugs that stuck to my windshield. Add to that, about 30 miles before you hit the Colorado border, the time changes back an hour so I had to relive that hell for the same hour!

Michele's new house is beautiful and I was kind of jealous of the view she sees while relaxing on her deck.

The next day we headed to Thornton (a northern suburb of Denver) to visit my cousin Shelly. Shelly has also moved into a new house so got to see more new decorating ideas. There is so much new construction around Denver. No wonder supplies are low and prices are skyrocketing.

I have high school friends who moved to Timnath, CO, a couple of years ago so I couldn't pass up an opportunity to go visit them. Timnath is just east of Fort Collins and Fort Collins is an hour and a half from Michele's. That is if you don't run into an accident. With my luck, that's just what happened. So what was supposed to be an hour and a half trip turned into 2 hours. We went to dinner in Fort Collins at this very quaint area (Old Town Fort Collins) that had a variety of restaurants, wine bars, beer tasting bars and boutiques. On Friday nights, they hold concerts in the square. Very cute area.

The drive home didn't seem as bad. Maybe it was because I wasn't expecting anything exciting. My first stop when I got back to Kansas City was the car wash. I tipped the workers a few extra dollars and they must have scrubbed my car for 5 minutes trying to remove every bug from the state of Kansas. Would I go back and visit again? Absolutely! But Michele will have to pick me up from the airport. No more road trips to Colorado!

Baby Number 4

Melissa has always been a lover of babies so it didn't surprise me when she told me they were having baby number 4. From what I can gather, the decision was made because there is room for 4 car seats in their Suburban. (That was my seat 😞)

The baby is due sometime in January (I can't remember the exact date....like that matters. I can't remember a lot of things).

And speaking of cars, I just figured out how to fit 3 kids in the back seat of my car. How am I ever going to fit 4? I refuse to buy a vehicle big enough to transport 4 kids. And then what happens if they decide to have another? It will be like stuffing clowns into a Volkswagen!

Andy's Frozen Custard - Rico Suave Jackhammer

Before I try yet another time to eat healthy, Trish and I decided to go for frozen custard at Andy's.

The drive through line wrapped around the block but the wait at the window went fairly fast especially when you're staring at the menu trying to decide what to get. I finally decided on the Rico Suave Jackhammer - chocolate custard blended with roasted pecans and Oreos with a center filled with hot fudge. No wonder I can't stick to a diet for more than a week. (Who am I kidding? It's more like a day and a half!)

15 Years and Counting

Three kids and 15 years later, Melissa and Jamie are still going strong. Not everything goes as planned but it's sad when plans for your 15th wedding anniversary are cancelled at the last minute.

Even though the kids were with them, I'm counting their recent trip to the beach as a wedding anniversary getaway. Happy Anniversary Melissa and Jamie. May the next 15 be just as great.
